Do You Have Surplus Food to Donate? |
Each day in our refrigerated truck our ServSafe (Certified Safe Food Handler) driver visits Twin Ports hospitals, clinics, retail grocery stores, schools, universities, restaurants and caterers picking up prepared and perishable food.
Once in our truck he delivers the food to programs also employing ServSafe staff who directly feed the needy.
Programs receiving the free food donations include: Damiano Center, Union Gospel Mission, Duluth and Superior Salvation Armys, Bethany Crisis Shelter, CHUM Drop In and Food Shelf, Safe Haven, Life House and Boys and Girls Club of Duluth.
"We are glad to see someone putting our food to good use rather than throwing it away," stated Lakeside Jubilee Manager Gary Jerome.

What is Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank's Impact on our Region? |
Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank
is the sole distributor of surplus food products to over 140
charitable food programs, including our region's soup kitchens, food shelves and
shelters. As a food bank, we provide food to the front-line charitable
agencies that offer meals to the hungry. As part of
America's Second Harvest network, we rescue food and non-food items from
national and regional
manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, restaurateurs and growers. These products
are temporarily stored in our 14,000 square foot warehouse, then quickly
distributed to agencies throughout our service region.
Just how far can we stretch a dollar? In just one year, local agencies access over 2.5
million pounds of food and grocery products, with an estimated value of $4.4 million,
for less than $389,000.
